The Biology Program and this Biology Course
The Human Respiratory System is one of the nine courses in the Biology Program for basic adult general education. Students who complete this 25-hour course can earn one Secondary V credit provided they pass a supervised examination administered by a Québec school board. There are no prerequisites for the courses in this program, and there is no equivalent program in the youth sector. The general objective of this course is as follows: “By learning concepts of anatomy and physiology, adults will gain a better understanding of the human respiratory system and the health problems associated with it.”
An Enriching Experience
Online learning is a dynamic experience. Throughout the course, you will establish a “dialogue” with an “intelligent” site that will respond to your input with immediate explanations and feedback. You will learn by interacting with detailed illustrations and dynamic animations. The online system provides you with a supportive, structured environment that responds at the click of a mouse. What's more, you can access the course and continue your work from any computer with Internet access, anywhere, any time.
A Challenge to Be Met
Learning does not happen on its own; it is the result of a process. This online course will require as much commitment from you as any traditional course. And, since the course content is set out in a non-linear, open environment, you will have to get organized and apply yourself.
Of course, you can use practical tools within the course to help you, as well as technical aids. If you are registered with a school board, you will be able to benefit from the support of an instructor or tutor. An instructor can offer all sorts of valuable assistance to help make your learning experience a success: from answering any questions you may have about the course content, to monitoring your progress and, of course, commenting on and marking your assignments. If you have no instructor or tutor and wish to take advantage of this assistance, contact a school board that offers this service and ask to be registered.
Remember that you are ultimately responsible for your own learning. This responsibility is part of the enriching experience of online learning.
