Course Description

Geometry III (MTH-4102-1)

  • Overview

This is the third in a series of three compulsory courses on geometry. In this course, students learn about geometric transformations: translations, rotations and reflections (displacements) as well as dilatations (enlargements or reductions). They also learn to do calculations on similar figures and to draw figures to scale.

  • Outline

-Isometric transformations: translation, rotation and reflexion
    - Transformations of similitude and similar figures
    - Congruent triangles and similar triangles
    - Calculating the lengths of sides of two similar triangles
    - Calculating the lengths of sides of two similar polygones
    - Calculating actual dimensions, given a scale diagram
    - Drawing scale diagrams, given actual dimensions
    - Solving problems from various fields of human endeavor involving concepts of similarity or of congruence in geometric figures

  • Target Population

Anyone who wishes to complete the Secondary IV Mathematics program, which is equivalent to MTH-416, MTH-426 or MTH-436 courses in the youth sector.

  • Prerequisites

    All Secondary III-level mathematics courses (MTH-3001-2, MTH-3002-2, MTH-3003-2).

  • Specific Computer Resources Required

Quick Time Player and Acrobat Reader (the download links are provided). Access to a printer is required. Presently this course is not comptabile with Intel based Mac computer.

  • Remark

Each assignment file must be downloaded and printed by the student. The student then writes his (her) solutions and answers and sends this handwritten copy to his (her) tutor or hands it to his (her) instructor.

  • Price

Price for an individual access: $ 6.00
Prices for educational institutions: $ 5.00 for individual access and $ 5.00 for group access.

Note: Prices are subject to change without notice.

  • Assigned activities

    Number: 3

Estimated correction time: About 20 minutes for each assignment including written explanations and comments.

  • Assessment

In order to obtain credits for this course, the student must pass a final examination at his (her) school board. This examination counts for 100% of the mark that will appear on his (her) transcript.
